Frequently Asked Bimini Set Questions

Sizing & Fitment

How do I measure my boat for the right Bimini top size?

To measure your boat for a Bimini top, follow three steps:

  1. Width (Beam Width): Measure the distance between the two primary mounting points on opposite sides of the boat deck or gunwale.
  2. Length: Select the desired shade coverage area forward to aft (typically 6 feet for 3-bow sets or 8 to 10 feet for 4-bow sets).
  3. Height: Measure upward from the mounting point to determine standing or seating clearance beneath the canopy.

Should I choose a round tube or square tube aluminum frame?

Choose a round tube frame (typically 1" aluminum) for standard V-hull boats, runabouts, ski boats, and fishing boats. Choose a square tube frame (typically 1" aluminum) for pontoon boats to fit standard square pontoon railing systems.

What is the difference between a 2-Bow, 3-Bow, and 4-Bow Bimini top?

2-Bow Bimini Tops: Best for smaller craft like inflatables, V-hull boats, or restricted spaces.

3-Bow Bimini Tops: Designed for mid-size boats including ski, runabout, and bass boats.

4-Bow Bimini Tops: Provide maximum shade coverage for larger vessels and pontoon boats.

What’s Included & Hardware

Does the set come with everything needed for installation?

A complete Bimini top set includes:

1" aluminum frame (round or square tubing)

Heavy-duty 600D marine-grade canvas canopy

Matching zippered storage boot

Rear support poles or adjustable straps

Front tie-down straps

If you would like to have the rear support pole replaced with bimini support straps we do sell them separately. Other lengths of support poles are also sold separately.

Does the storage boot have a hole for a stern navigation light?

Yes, SavvyCraft storage boots feature a pre-cut, zippered stern light opening. This allows you to fold and zip the boot over the canvas without removing or obstructing your boat's navigation light.

How long does it take to install a Bimini top kit?

Installing a Bimini top kit takes about 1 to 2 hours. Frames feature quick-connect snap poles, and the canvas includes zippered sleeves for easy slide-on attachment without full frame disassembly.

Materials & Durability

What fabric is used for SavvyCraft Bimini tops, and is it waterproof?

SavvyCraft Bimini top canopies are made from 600D heavy-duty marine-grade polyester with a waterproof PU coating. The fabric is UV-resistant, tear-resistant, and breathable to prevent fading, mold, and weather damage on the water.

Can you trailer or cruise with a Bimini top up?

No, it is not recommended to keep a Bimini top extended while trailering at highway speeds or cruising above 25–30 mph. High winds can strain the aluminum frame and tear the canvas canopy. Always fold the frame back and secure the fabric inside the zippered storage boot before high-speed travel.
